BEFORE THE STORM
Plan ahead
Turn the temperature down in your freezer and fridge.
Freeze refrigerated items you do not need immediately.
Freeze containers/ziploc bags of water to keep food cold in case of power outage.
Fill your bathtub with water. This can be used to flush the toilet, and for cleaning.
Store non-perishable foods on higher shelves to avoid flood water.
Tip: Freeze a cup of water, then place a coin on top. If you evacuate, when you return, check the cup. If the coin is no longer on top of the water, your power was out long enough that your food is likely spoiled.
