Update from Brazosport Cares: SNAP Benefits and the Federal Government Shutdown

At Brazosport Cares, our priority remains ensuring that everyone in our community has access to healthy, nutritious food and support, especially during uncertain times. We know that many of our neighbors rely on SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits to help feed their families, and we want to share what we know about how the current federal government shutdown may affect those benefits.

What’s Happening with SNAP Benefits

  • SNAP is a federal program that helps eligible households buy groceries.

  • Due to the government shutdown, the USDA (the federal agency that funds SNAP) has indicated that there may be delays in November benefit payments if the shutdown continues.

  • Benefits that have already been issued to your EBT card are still available for use.

  • Per the USDA website, at this time, benefits will not be issued on November 1st.

What This Means for Our Community

  • If you receive SNAP benefits, please check your balance and plan for possible delays in November.

  • We understand that this uncertain time can be stressful. Please know, you are not alone.

  • Brazosport Cares and other local resources are here to help and support you during this time.

Our Commitment to You

  • We are open and operating as usual. Brazosport Cares will continue to provide food assistance to anyone in need.

  • If you are concerned about eligibility requirements, know that we never turn anyone away, and we will work with you to ensure you get the help you need.

  • Our team can connect you with additional resources and community programs if your benefits are delayed.

  • We are monitoring the situation closely and will provide official updates as they become available.

  • Check your SNAP balance on your EBT card and plan for possible delays.
